What it's really like in a WorldTour sprint

Fascinating insight into what it's like during the closing kms of a "pedestrian" sprint sage on the Watts Occuring podcast this week. Check out 3:10 - 6:55 of this episode for a graphic description from Geraint Thomas of the finale of Stage 3 of the Vuelta. It's a brilliant descriotion of what it’s like to race in the modern peloton on a “quiet day” (with everyone racing full gas and what sounds like very little camaraderie between riders)
Money quote: “Some teams, I think they forget that they actually have brakes”. As Luke Rowe points out, TV really doesn’t even begin to do justice to that drama.
Really interesting these kind of insights are coming from two pros on their own pod, rather than from traditional cycling media. Luke and Geraint are clearly setting themselves up for post-cycling media careers but what that will look in 2024 is very different from what it did in the past.
